New Position: Assistant Secretary

Duties: The Assistant Secretary assists the Secretary with the maintenance of the minutes of all meetings of both member and board meetings and will give notice of meetings when required. The Assistant Secretary will assist keeping the SOA corporate licenses current with each state where the Association is registered, and help ensure the Association’s non-profit status is maintained with each state where filed, and the IRS. The Assistant Secretary will help receive, route and maintain US mail correspondence between the membership and various Board members. The Assistant Secretary shall assume the duties of the Secretary if the Secretary assumes the role of SOA/SOAF President in the absence of both the President and the Vice President. The Secretary’s duties are outlined in Annex B of the SOA SOP. Assist the Secretary in preparation and execution of the annual General Membership Meeting (during SOAR), and the scripting and event coordination of the annual SOAR Banquet, the SOAR PRP and AAR.    

Time Requirements of the SOA and SOAF Assistant Secretary: Average from January -May of 5 hours weekly, 20 hours monthly, accounting for meetings and correspondence of the Association and Foundation plus 5 hours monthly preparing for and attending SOAF and SOA meetings, preparing minutes, agendas, reports, and activities. June – December an additional 12 hours monthly preparing for and recovering from SOAR.

Skills and Attributes of the SOA/SOAF Assistant Secretary:

Detail oriented and proficient in MS Office, email, ZOOM/Skype, and writing, recording, archiving, and retrieving documents (i.e. meeting minutes, agendas, motions/votes, committee reports/issues, and articles/notices for electronic newsletters and updates).  A Teambuilder who works well with ad-hoc groups of SOA/SOAF volunteers and SOA/SOAF Members alike.

WANTED: SOA Liaison Officers

SOA is seeking volunteer Liaison Officers to represent the Special Operations Association and SOA Foundation to active and reserve Special Forces and Special Operations units near them.

SOA LNOs help keep today’s SF and SOF warriors connected to our Association, our history, and our programs. They serve as a local point of contact, sharing information about SOA membership, SOAF support, veteran resources, and opportunities for involvement.

LNOs also help keep SOA informed about unit events where our support or presence may be appropriate, including Gold Star Family events, pre- and post-deployment events, organizational days, Dining-Ins and Dining-Outs, changes of command, award ceremonies, memorials, funerals, and Family Readiness activities.

Ideally, LNO teams will include both MACV-SOG era and GWOT era veterans who live within a one-day drive of the supported unit. LNOs will coordinate with the appropriate SOA Director and provide monthly updates on current and upcoming unit activities.

SOA LNOs are the face of SOA/SOAF to the current and next generation of Special Operations Forces. They help carry forward our mission, our history, and our commitment to those still serving.
