Bill Bowles
Covert Loves
In
his new novel Covert Loves (published
by iUniverse), author and veteran Bill Bowles offers a story that
chronicles “… the devastating effects of war, and how its aftermath remains
long after the firing guns and falling bombs are silent.” Ken Fisher joined
the army after World War II ended. He had always wanted to travel and see
the world, but postwar Germany is nothing like what he expected. Instead of
beautiful landscapes and thankful citizens, Ken finds gritty despair and
racism. Amid the chaos, Ken falls in love with a charming German girl named
Elona, but love isn’t simple after war, especially when Ken is an outsider.
When Elona and Ken decide to get married, their application for a marriage
license reveals dark, terrible secrets, bringing their love into question.
Ken leaves Germany and love behind and becomes a Green Beret. He serves
several tours and gains knowledge of unconventional warfare in South
Vietnam, where he learns to be a true soldier. At this point, Ken’s military
career could have ended. He could have continued teaching ROTC kids and
living a peaceful, happy existence. Instead, he is sent to the Korean
Demilitarized Zone, where he is given a final assignment that will test his
beliefs and his oaths. When faced with this assignment, Ken must make a
life-changing choice between accepting Army orders and upholding his own
beliefs in right and wrong. This chronicle of a young soldier’s life, Bowles
says, “… presents readers with a challenge: what would they do, in Fisher’s
place? Could they have made the right decision and lived with the
consequences?”

The Dega -
A Mike Force Novel
An
American lieutenant leading tribal mercenaries in a fight to save their
ancient enemy. What could go wrong?
Vietnam’s Central Highlands, late 1967: The 5th Special Forces Group is
raising their largest Mobile Strike (MIKE) Force to a parachute Brigade with
plans of transferring it to Vietnamese Army control. But two companies have
just walked away at Dak To, on orders of a new Montagnard FULRO Agent who
has infiltrated the MIKE Force with the mission of leading it into open
revolt against the Vietnamese. The Americans want him uncovered and
co-opted. The Vietnamese want him identified and killed. Both have chosen
their best men for the job. Major Charlie Regter, an old Special Forces hand
intimately familiar with FULRO’s leadership, and Major Ton That Ngoc, and
arrogant first cousin to the former emperor who cut his combat teeth with
French Paracommandos in the First Indochina War. Ngoc and Regter despise
each other, but both have higher loyalties. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Galen
Saint Cyr is the man on the ground. A former Peace Corps volunteer and
Special Forces radio operator pulled from Special Forces involuntarily, he
has been rescued from the drudgery of conventional infantry combat by a
chance encounter with the MIKE Force, and risen to command a MIKE Force
company whose cadres are intimately involved in the Revolt. Though St. Cyr
speaks the language, he has a lot to learn as he leads a hand-picked team of
American, Australian and Vietnamese Special Forces, commanding Jarai and
Bahnar tribal paratroops against Viet Cong and North Vietnamese regulars. He
has even taken a beautiful Jarai lover. Now all he has to do is survive the
Tet offensive, Vietnamese schemes, a lover who commands assassins and hears
voices in her head, a Montagnard revolt, American troops who are not always
friendly, and hard combat with an ever growing enemy—and he might just live
long enough to make it home. If that’s really what he wants . After all, no
one in the MIKE Force expects to live forever.

Secret Soldiers of the Second Army
The
book starts out picturing a young man who foolishly wants to go to war where
he in vision's himself receiving all these high class medals for heroism but
never once taking into account what it is going to take physically and
mentally to get those medals. He's constantly playing a head game within
himself and those that surround him. He like so many other young men of past
eras are trying to be something that they're not and that small initial lie
grows into a tremendous reputation that he has to live with and soon regrets
that he's known by such. Come walk with the author and his brothers of the
sword through the dark, humid, unforgiving jungles of Vietnam and experience
the death, destruction, and mental sacrificial anguish they had to endure.
Come see why you fear being alone in the denseness of a jungle or a forest
that you have never entered before. Feel the heat of the Asian jungle floor
intermixed with the leaches, ants, mosquitoes, snakes and humans searching
you out only to destroy you at any cost. You see our author starts out
innocently enough but soon finds out that war is not only a physical
hardship demanding its pounds of flesh, but also is a horrendous mental
agonizing hazard from which there is only one means of escape and/or
retreat. That means to an end is death. Yes the author and his brothers of
the sword will take their heroic missions and sacrificial allegiances to the
grave with them. But, the real tragedy of it all is no one really cares
about them in the first place. For they were and still are the "Secret
Soldiers of the Second Army" willing to go anywhere, any time, to do the
impossible for the ungrateful.

Across The Fence: The Secret War In Vietnam - Expanded Edition
The
new expanded edition of Across The Fence is on the ground. I've add more
than 100 pages, three new chapters and 55 photos. Here's an excerpt from
Chapter 10:
One of the NVA in the creek started crawling up the embankment toward me. I
was still facing the creek. The NVA soldier was good; he only moved when the
wind stirred the trees... As the NVA soldier crawled closer, I remember
thinking that my heart was beating so damned loud that Ho Chi Minh could
hear it in Hanoi... my heart sounded like a kettledrum during Beethoven's
Ninth. No matter, the NVA soldier kept moving up the embankment. I was very
impressed with his stealth. I could barely hear him. Then it happened.
During one windy moment, I heard movement very close to me. It was only a
slight sound, but a sound nonetheless. Before the wind stopped, the NVA
soldier touched the sole of my size 10 R Army-issue jungle boot. I heard a
slight gasp of surprise from him...

Jim Bolen
No Guts, No Glory
Jim
Bolen is a true American badass. He's led a life so on-the-edge dangerous
that the details of it will make you insist—as everyone else has—that he
shouldn't have made it through. No Guts, No Glory is the hard-knuckle
first-hand account of a man whose fierce dedication to justice and fearless
sense of adventure have taken him from the streets of Dayton, Ohio to the
jungles of Cambodia; from leading enemy POW "snatches" in the military's
top-secret Special Operations Group to being Hustler Magazine founder Larry
Flynt's personal bodyguard; from squaring off nightly in a long string of
"Road House"-style bar fights to becoming a South African bounty hunter,
getting paid per head for each terrorist he captured or killed.
And that's only scratching the surface.
There is plenty more action as well, including an international gun-running
scheme that ends badly, and business adventures that eventually make him a
millionaire. Plus all the blood, guts, motorcycles, women and jail time that
come with the territory.
It's all there, and well-detailed in Bolen's straight-forward and
unadulterated prose—which is further brought to life with hundreds of
corroborating photographs, military citations, awards and medals. If you
think he's bluffing about any of this, think again.
For readers of nonfiction action and adventure, combat stories,
international intrigue, and just plain Fight Club-style grit and humor, No
Guts, No Glory is a must-read.

Is Anybody Listening? A True Story About POW/MIAs In The Vietnam War
For
15 years, the turmoil of Vietnam had been put to bed. Now, ironically, the
turmoil was in my bed, in my deepest sleep. Jim and Vietnam were revisiting
me. But where was this coming from? Night after night, Jim would stand at
the foot of my bed and plead for me to come help him, now, before it was too
late. Vietnam had been a dead issue as far as the press was concerned, and
nothing had come to me in the mail from the Army in years. So, what was
triggering these nightmares? I soon realized that this would be the start of
a roller-coaster adventure of intrigue that would take me from the jungles
of Vietnam’s tri-border region to the halls of government buildings in
Washington D.C. I would be tested and challenged beyond my wildest
expectations. I was to embark on an education for which there are no
textbooks or classes—only long hours, endless dead ends, and many lost
hopes. Could I hold on to my sanity? Would truth prevail? Would I have the
answer to what happened to Jim? The road that lay ahead was truly full of
landmines and obstacles. My faith in God, truth, and mankind would be tested
to the max.
Barbara Birchim is a registered nurse and the mother of two grown children.
She has made numerous trips to Southeast Asia to include the tri-border
region of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in search of answers. She spent
countless hours in Washington, DC, with various departments of the
government in tracking down leads and documents. Barbara has given numerous
television, radio, and newspaper interviews on the POW/MIA issue. Some of
the various organizations that she belongs are the National League of
Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, Special Forces
Association, and Special Operations Association. Barbara is also actively
involved in starting, maintaining, and supporting health care projects in
Third World countries through the recycling of donated medical supplies.
Since this book was published in 2005, new documents have surfaced that
relate to Jim’s case. For this reason, I was compelled to write a new
chapter for the book which was just published in November 2010. For those
that have already purchased my book, I will have this Chapter 28 available
for reading on my web-site (www.Is-Anybody-Listening.com) by February 2011.

looking for Navy pilots who were shot down over North Vietnam. Top secret

Boots on the Ground - The History of Project Delta
Early
in the Vietnam conflict the U.S. command structure recognized a need for
solid verifiable intelligence about enemy locations, movements and tactics.
Much of the enemy's covert activity was occurring in Laos and Cambodia,
areas where U.S. presence was not permitted. Project Delta was the first
successful unit that evolved to perform long range reconnaissance and other
counter insurgency missions deep in enemy territory. Project Delta's
operations remained classified until 1996. For the first time, the history
of this storied unit has been recorded from volumes of declassified military
documents and from hundreds of hours of interviews conducted in 2009. The
author is a former member of the U.S. Army's Special Forces and was a recon
team leader in Project Delta.

Hunting The Jackal – (2004 – HarperCollins Publishing)
This long-time SOG and SOA Member, Billy Waugh, discusses SOG
Special Operations actions during the years 1966-68, then 1970-71 as Recon
Company CCS and Recon Company CCN Sergeant Major of these units in daily
combat v. the North Vietnamese on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The latter Chapters
of this book discuss the truthful ‘take down’ of Ilich Rameriz-Sanchez, aka
Carlos the Jackal, who was the World’s # 1 Terrorist during the 1980’s and
early 1990s. Carlos the Jackal, a very exotic name Rameriz-Sanchez rewarded
himself, was deadly; and, totally without remorse, in his use of explosives
and violence during the conduct of his deadly terrorist actions. Credited
with killing dozens of citizens and officials in France, and other nations
about the world, Rameriz-Sanchez was the subject of a CIA surveillance
action during the months of March – Aug 1994 – This book is first-person
accounting, by the author. Rameriz-Sanchez this date (2008) still resides in
the French Le Sante prison, resting in maximum security.

Honorary Green Beret Bo Derek wrote of his current trilogy of military
specops thrillers, “I feel so honored that Don patterned Bo Devore as a
cross between me and his wife Shirley. BAMBOO BATTLEGROUND ties up all the
loose ends from the previous two novels in the trilogy and is a military
thriller that I could not put down. The old-fashioned romance between the
main characters is refreshing and the suspense and action kept me glued to
the pages. I think Don really did it with these three books.”
Jim Morris author of WAR STORY and OPERATION DUMBO DROP wrote: “Don Bendell
knows this stuff cold and writes better action scenes than any man
alive.”Don also wrote the SF non-fiction Vietnam books CROSSBOW,
SNAKE-EATER, THE B-52 OVERTURE, and VALLEY OF TEARS . He also wrote 10
western historical fiction novels and the late PLAYBOY Men’s Column editor
Asa Baber wrote, “If you liked Louis L’Amour, you will really love Don
Bendell .” He also created and wrote the first 6 sci-fi novels called the
TRACKER series under the pen name Ron Stillman.
You can order any of Don’s books or his successful motion picture THE

He has over 2,500,000 books in print now and his newest book STRONGHEART is
a western and is selling very well. Many are comparing it with Louis
L’Amour’s and Zane Grey’s works.
